“The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Lounès Mokrane, participated in the High-Level Regional Conference on renewing political commitment to international humanitarian law, held on 11 December 2025 at the Dead Sea in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
This conference falls within the framework of supporting efforts aimed at strengthening respect for international humanitarian law in light of the growing challenges posed by contemporary conflicts.
In a speech delivered during the high-level segment of the conference, the Secretary-General, on behalf of Algeria—which co-chairs Track IV alongside Slovenia, Costa Rica, and Sierra Leone within this international initiative on the protection of civilian property and infrastructure—renewed the call for the comprehensive and non-selective application of international humanitarian law, the strengthening of accountability, and the protection of vital infrastructure, in order to safeguard the lives and dignity of civilians in various conflicts, especially in situations where peoples live under occupation.
The conference also reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to continuing cooperation with partner states to promote respect for international humanitarian law and to support efforts aimed at protecting civilians in all conflicts.
In this context, the Secretary-General reiterated Algeria’s position regarding the ongoing violations of international humanitarian law in the Palestinian territories, particularly in the Gaza Strip, in light of double standards and selective application of the law
