The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, received today a phone call from the Vice-President of the European Commission and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Ms. Kaja Kallas.
The discussions focused on the current state and future prospects of relations between Algeria and the European Union—both in their bilateral dimension related to the Partnership Agreement binding the two parties, and in the multilateral framework involving the southern Mediterranean countries.
In this context, and regarding bilateral relations, Minister Ahmed Attaf emphasized the need to activate the main mechanism governing the Algeria-EU partnership, namely the Association Council, which remains the most appropriate framework for addressing all matters of mutual political and economic interest.
As for multilateral cooperation, both parties exchanged views on the proposed “Charter for the Mediterranean”, which is currently under discussion between the European Union and the southern Mediterranean countries.
In conclusion, both sides agreed to continue and intensify efforts aimed at restoring the necessary balance in the economic partnership between Algeria and the European Union, in a way that safeguards the interests of both parties and contributes to the promotion of peace, security, and sustainable development in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
