The Embassy of Algeria in Helsinki Commemorates the Anniversary of 1 November 1954

The Embassy of Algeria in Helsinki commemorated on Tuesday, 4 November 2025, the seventy-first anniversary of the outbreak of the blessed Liberation Revolution of 1 November 1954. The ceremony was attended by members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Finland, officials from the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, business representatives, friends of Algeria from various organizations and personalities, as well as members of the Algerian community residing in Finland.

In his speech, the Ambassador of Algeria to Finland, Mr. Mohamed Bourouba, emphasized that the Algerian Revolution was one of the most intense uprisings of the twentieth century and among the deadliest wars in modern history. During the eight years of the Liberation War, the Algerian people sacrificed one and a half million martyrs.

The ambassador noted that the greatness of this revolution lies not only in the achievement of Algeria’s independence, but also in its role as a source of inspiration for many peoples around the world. For this reason, from the very first day of independence, Algeria worked to strengthen its multifaceted support for liberation movements, especially in Africa, and directly contributed to the independence of several countries. In this spirit, Algeria will always stand with peoples fighting for their freedom, foremost among them the Palestinian people and the people of Western Sahara.

He further stressed that Algerian-Finnish relations, which celebrated their sixtieth anniversary in 2023, have always been founded on trust and mutual respect, and aligned in their support for multilateral cooperation, respect for international law, and international legitimacy in all forums.
